Solo Ads (Basics)

Overview
So you’ve decided to step up to a MOBE Licensee. That’s great news! Of course if you are new to marketing, your first question is probably, “Where do I start?” Your primary goal as a licensee/marketer is to drive traffic to the MOBE funnel. This process is called lead generation or driving traffic
There are many ways to drive traffic, but this article will focus on Solo Ads
First, What is a solo Ad? Read the definition, but keep in mind that I will break this down further into easy to understand pieces.
“Solo Ad” is when you pay someone to email an ad created by you to THEIR email list, on your behalf. Your ad will have a recommendation and link to your opt-in offer capture page. Some of the people on that email list will opt-in (add their email address) on the page and you will build your own email list and probably make some sales in whatever it is you are promoting. A solo ad is a single ad written in email form that leads to an offer
This is what a solo ad looks like:
1
Solo ads are basically emails sent out to a marketers list. For example, Joe has 10K subscribers on his list. These are the people who opted in to his offer/s over time. He has built his list and has enough subscribers that he can offer others to pay him to send out their offers to his list. A list can be small or huge and the subscribers are usually target specific. For example, money making seekers, internet marketers, health and wellness, etc.
It sounds simple, if you have already run solo ads. If you haven’t, let me break it down.
A solo ad is created in email form with a subject, body, and call to action. It is usually short and will contain two to three links which go to a squeeze page. Other terms which mean the same thing are:
opt-in page
capture page
landing page
lead magnet
front end of a sales funnel
I will use the term squeeze page for this article. Keep in mind squeeze page from this point on refers to any of the listed terms. I’m sure there are others!
The purpose of the squeeze page is to capture a lead. For example, someone is surfing the internet looking for money making offers. They land on your squeeze page that promotes a fantastic offer. The person likes what they see. They are interested, so they voluntarily submit their name and email in an opt-in box on your page.
At that point, they become a subscriber. Once they are subscribed, they will either buy and/or directed to an autoresponder, and should receive follow up. What happens to them at that moment depends upon you. When someone becomes a subscriber, they have entered a sales funnel which will ultimately take them to a product or offer. The best case scenario is they take out their credit or debit card and buy. Sales funnels can be simple or complex, but for this illustration, we will use a basic squeeze page that leads to a sales page. A single sales page is where the purchase is made.
As a MOBE licensee, you have the ability to promote all of the MOBE products. Each product has its own unique URL with your user name embedded in the link. Your URL’s are located in your MOBE back office. Each link is directed to an offer and you need to get traffic to your offer. Solo ads are an effective way to get people who are interested in your offer to your squeeze page.
You can buy clicks from Joe and your solo ad will be sent out to his list. The purpose of the solo ad is to be compelling enough for Joe’s subscribers to click on the link in the ad which will lead to your squeeze page. This is where it can be confusing for beginners. If you are not ready to create a squeeze page that directs subscribers to your autoresponder, you can promote a ready made opt-in page that is listed in your MOBE back office which submits directly into the MOBE funnel.
This is Simple Flow and is temporarily recommended for beginners.
Someone clicks on the link in your solo ad==>arrive at the MOBE squeeze page==> he/she opts-in==>arrives at the MOBE sales page ==>some will buy and all will be subscribed in an autoresponder and receive email follow up from Matt
2
When you use the simple flow, the subscribers will go directly into the MOBE system and although there will be follow up from Matt, you lose your subscriber/s. Again, this method is not advised, but if you need to practice setting up a solo ad, it’s a good start. Subscribers who opt-in through your link are connected or “cookied” to you once they are in the funnel whether they got there through your squeeze page or directly to the MOBE opt-in page. You will receive any sales made from a person who is cookied to you.
Rather than not doing anything, it’s better to start with the simple flow until you get the hang of it . Unfortunately many new marketers never take action because they get stuck at the squeeze page stage. If you are technically frantic, you can pay someone to create a squeeze page for you.
This is Regular Flow which is recommended:
Someone clicks the link in your solo ad==> arrives at your squeeze page==> he/she opts-in your capture page (submit name and/or email)==>arrives at a sales page that promotes MOBE==>some will buy and all will be subscribed in an autoresponder and receive email follow up from you and Matt

When you hear the term “sales funnel”, the flow, whether simple or regular is a sales funnel.
Let’s Get Started:
Step 1
Create your Squeeze Page. This one was created in Optimize Press. There are numerous software programs to create your own. If you feel the need to outsource, then have someone do it for you. Take action.
Step 2
Create your Solo Ad.
A) Solo Ad Format-What do they look like?
Your solo ad needs to match your headline on your squeeze page. Congruency is important. Put yourself in the shoes of the person clicking on your solo ad. The ad will present the offer and a link which leads to your squeeze page. The solo ad should be congruent with the squeeze page. If it isn’t, the flow is missing, which will make the difference between someone accepting your offer or leaving your page. It needs to make sense.
Example #1
Solo ad promoting MOBE. This ad is congruent with the squeeze page.

B) Before moving to more examples of solo ads, I will cover the basics of tracking.
The intention of this article is to show you the fundamentals of creating a solo ad, but tracking is so essential, it must be mentioned so I will very briefly discuss basic tracking. Tracking a link means you want to find out where clicks on links are coming from.
Tracking converts or “cloaks” your URL which points to the same content or page. Your URL you start with is called a destination link. After the link is converted, it will look different, but it will direct to the destination page.
For example, this is the destination URL: Your affiliate links which are located in your MOBE back office will look similar.
http://myonlinebusinessempire.com/business/referral.php?p=<affiliateusername>&w=mobe
As an example, tracking software will convert it to this tracking link:
When someone clicks on the tracking link, the person will land on the destination page URL.
tracking program is software that you need to convert a URL into a tracking link. If you are serious about your business, do not rely upon a free tracking system. There are several good paid tracking programs.
Most popular paid examples:
Ad Trakz Gold
Hypertracker
Quality Click Control-Version 5.2 has a tracker
Pretty Link is a plugin that can be installed on your WordPress Blog.
Going back to solo ad example #1, if you create a tracking link, you will replace your destination URL with a tracking link but it will still direct to your squeeze page.

C) Guidelines
1) Using these as examples, write your ad which includes your subject line, body, and call to action. The easiest way to create a solo ad is to simply use notepad.
2) The subject line is very important. The more compelling it is, the more it creates curiosity, and the better chance there is for someone to open the email. Going back to Joe, you want his subscribers to like your ad and to get the highest open rate possible.
Once they open the email, you want your solo ad to be well written and compelling enough for Joe’s subscribers to click on the link that directs to your squeeze page.
3) How do you find good subject lines?
Create a second email account and subscribe to other marketers funnels. Get on their lists by opting into their squeeze pages. You will receive their emails in the account. When you need ideas, check the account and note which subject lines are good. Which ones catch your eye? Which ones make you feel like you want to open the email and see what it is about?
4)You need to learn how to promote a MOBE offer. There are all types of offers. Some of them are garbage and do not help anyone. Stay away from super hypy headlines. They will get more opens, but conversions are low. Outrageous claims, emails appearing they came from support or admin, pertaining to pay processors etc. In other words anything that is trying to trick the person into opening the mail. There is a fine line between hype and an excellent headline that converts well. As a beginner, experience will teach you what works best.
Step 3
You contact a solo ad vender.
You can find solo venders in many ways. The best way is by word of mouth. Ask your fellow marketers who are already involved with solo ads. They will be your best resource for reliable and honest solo venders. Read testimonials on solo vender sales pages. You can search almost anywhere on the internet including Skype, Facebook, Google+
Safe Swaps is a resource for solo venders who are ranked by reputation. You can buy solo ads for without paying for a membership, but you need a membership to sell.
Solo Vender Etiquette
1.Remember you are doing business with solo venders.
2.You will be making a transaction.
3.You are purchasing a service.
4.Do the research you need to do before selecting a solo vendor. When
you are happy with someone who meets your budget needs, contact
them and act like a professional.
5.Establish a good repoire by conducting a smooth transaction for the
vendor.
6.Solo vendors are extremely busy and they have a lot of data to track.
You are not the only person they are dealing with in one day.
7. Let him/her check your solo ad. They have the discretion to accept or
reject your offer.
8. It is fine to ask questions, but don’t drill them. If you have done your
research, the good vendors will usually provide the answers to most of
their questions before you contact them. If they have not indicated, it
is a good idea to ask if they change the swipe. Some vendors do, and if
that is not your preference, then it may be better to move on.
9.Take note of the date and time it will be run.
10.Track your link as a precaution and good marketing.
11. A solo vendor cannot guarantee conversions..
Step 4
Pay for your solo ad-You will pay for your solo ad before it is run.
You can buy per click
Example: 100 clicks for $40 or .40/click
You can buy as many clicks as you can afford. Solo venders may offer discounts in bulk or special packages at a lower rate. For example you may pay .40 if you purchase 100, or .30/click if you purchase 1K.
You can also buy per list size
It is a good idea to do a test run before committing to a lot of money. A suggestion would be to purchase 100 clicks and test the vender. If you are happy with the results, then go ahead and buy more.
Step 5
Be sure to write a positive testimonial for your solo ad vendor if you feel he/she deserves it.
Let’s Review:
Chain of events:
You create or acquire a squeeze page
You create your solo ad that is congruent to your squeeze page
You contact a solo ad vender.
You provide your solo ad to the vender.
You pay for the solo ad.
The solo ad vender promotes your ad and should deliver the amount of clicks you purchased on selected date/s. Many overdeliver.
Once you start building your list, it is important to follow-up with your subscribers to build trust.
Follow up is a subject for a different article.
